ERIC CLAPTON (Derek & The Dominoes) "LAYLA" LP cover, signed when EC was a guest of Quaker Square Hilton Inn and in Jim's audience two nights in a row.
Print Ad for Paul Simon Concert. Paul & touring staff stayed at The Quaker Square Hilton Inn, which would lead to Jim's meeting AND getting to play a duet with the legendary singer/songwriter.
Stage Pass for Paul Simon concert ... from tour manager, Marc Silag at Jim's gig in Akron, Ohio's Hilton (where Mr. Simon was staying for his appearance at Blossom Music Center). "On Paul's behalf, Marc was interested in the guitar I was using. He asked me to bring the guitar to soundcheck the next afternoon, saying Paul would probably want to buy it (which he did). While there, I got to play a duet of 'The Boxer' on stage with the man who wrote the song. Quite possibly the best five minutes of my lifetime." That evening Jim watched Paul's show, knowing one of the guitars he used "... was mine just the night before. After his concert, I still got to my gig at Quaker Square, with Paul Simon in my audience. What an unforgettable day!"
Even though getting to play a "duet" with Paul Simon was more than he could have wished for, Jim always regretted not having an album cover signed at the time. As Jim elaborated, "Over two decades later, during a visit to New York, my wife and I left this LP cover with one of the staff in Paul Simon's office, with a note to remind him of the Akron meeting. Three years after that ... the cover was in my mailbox."
JAMES TAYLOR "Mudslide Slim" LP cover, signed for Jim by JT (when he was a guest of Quaker Square Hilton Inn, while in town to perform at Blossom Music Center). "What?! This old thing? Thanks for listening. Carry on, James Taylor"
JAMES TAYLOR stage pass (8/7/88), given to Jim by members of JT's band (when they were guests of Quaker Square Hilton Inn) with tickets for the concert.
JAMES BURTON (guitarist for Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Emmy Lou Harris) Business card given to Jim, after hearing his show at Quaker Square Hilton Inn in Akron, OH. JB was on tour working with John Denver, in town to play at Blossom Music Center.
JAMES BURTON invited Jim to come to LA after hearing Jim's show at Quaker Square Hilton Inn in Akron, OH. "He offered to help me with my career and make connections in the LA studio scene. But personal circumstances made that impossible at that time. But it still meant a lot to me ... knowing that Mr. Burton thought that much of my playing. After all, he is 'hero' to many of my favorite guitarists: George Harrison, Joe Walsh, Keith Richards ..."
DOKKEN'S leader, Don Dokken, performing with Jim in the lounge at Quaker Square Hilton Inn during the "Monsters Of Rock" Tour
Monsters Of Rock Tour stage pass given to Jim by Don Dokken. The tour manager "rented" Ferdinand's Lounge of Quaker Square Hilton Inn, closing it to the public for 3 consecutive evenings, during which Jim's audience included Edward Van Halen, Metallica, Dokken and Scorpions.
Jim Smith Piano, Guitar & Vocal PLUS "One-Man Band" ... flute solo with self-recorded accompaniment track in "Ferdinand's Lounge" at Quaker Square Hilton Inn, Akron, OH
